Typically, in Call of Cthulu, an investigator takes 1 sanity damage from seeing constellations that are wrong - as if they were on another planet. I took several points of sanity damage on my walk this morning.
I moved to Florida from Chicago on Friday and haven't left the house much because of the heat. The only thing I noticed from the car, other than the sun glaring down with a vengeance, is that there are many palm trees and spanish moss covers the rest. I started making my first check from waking up to completely different birdsong. It sounds weird and rough after being used to other birds. Clearing my head, I walked outside, still looking askance at sand being where soil should. There isn't really grass here so much as scrub brush that is native to the area. The side-walks here are narrow and often have up to a few inches in height between two sections. The only familiar bird I saw was a pair of cardinals. I heard an actual rooster crow and stepped around spanish moss hanging everywhere. I found a particular type of bird to be endearing - small, mostly grey, and have a very long plume-shaped tail.
Things are weird here.
